At the age of 84, Riley “B.B.” King returns to Columbia for the first time since his November 2006 performance. He’ll grace the ears and hearts of listeners with his soulful vocals and lay-your-head-back, close-your-eyes guitar riffs.
The man might perform sitting down for most of his show, but his musical talent stands higher than the spotlight that
ricochets off the golden highlights of his signature Gibson guitar, Lucille. However, Grammy award-winning music isn’t the only kind of entertainment he has performed in his concerts. King has been known to entertain concertgoers with the stories and ideas that shaped the music he produces.
It’s hard to imagine what King has to be sad about while singing all those blues. After all, he does have 14 Grammys. Perhaps his stories will shed light on this. Don’t wait to get your tickets to see this living legend. With only about 250 tickets left, organizers expect the show to sell out. MU students can purchase up to two tickets half off with their student ID.

With the race to the top tighter than their lyrical leotards, these gymnasts will attempt to smoke their competition with a puff of ground chalk. If MU finishes in the top 36 teams overall during the regular season, the Tigers will compete at home in all the gymnastic events you know and love from the Olympics: vault, bars, beam and floor. Last year, two Tigers, Adrianne Perry and Sarah Shire, advanced to nationals as individual competitors, and MU has sent at least one individual to nationals for the past four seasons.
“Last year was kind of an awakening,” Shire says. “I was very alone; it’s just not as much fun without the rest of your team.”
Placing in the top two will guarantee a trip to nationals. This year all the Tigers hope to be on the bus to Florida, according to Paige Fredrickson, gymnastics sports information director.
“It brings tears to my eyes,” Shire says. “It gives me chills to think about the whole team going to nationals.”
Die-hard fans can attend a practice session April 9 at 2 or 4 p.m. where they can take photos of the athletes and get a preview of what’s to come. The Tigers placed 13th in the NCAA last season.
