These days, it seems things are all about cutting back and saving money. Although, to be perfectly frank, the past four years of my life have been about cutting spending. Nothing like college to curb one's spending. Still, I've noticed a difference in my shopping behavior lately, as I'm sure many of us have. I walk through the grocery store and scrutinze prices a lot more closely than I have before. Is $2.39 worth it for the brand of bread I like? Is Nutella necessary? (Always). Yeah, that dress is on sale, but do I need it? (Unfortunately the answer to that is most often yes, but let's not delve into my definition of necessity when it comes to clothes).
So, even though there has been a lot of scrimping in the past few years for me, I haven't resorted to anything extreme. As you'll read in our feature, many are supplementing their income by donating plasma. The money from this can often cover the cost of food for the week or even help with paying for gas. Can't say this is an option I've considered. The money seems decent, but what is the greater cost of essentially selling a piece of your body? Hopefully, our economic situation is resolved before it comes to that.
