Tattoos
Freedom of expression: Tattoos can be original, provided you get something other than the same Chinese characters everyone has (C’mon, are you sure that says “love” or is that just what they told you?). Plus, tattoos take a shorter time to heal and are less likely to get infected.
Potentially everlasting regret: When you were 18, you thought a naked woman tattoo would make you look tough and manly. Now you cover it up when you go on dates with classy, potential mothers-of-your-children because that will so not get you laid.
Piercings
Temporary and contained: That nose ring that you loved in college isn’t necessarily working with your image anymore. If you want to get rid of a piercing, just take it out. Also, piercings don’t fade or stretch like tattoos can. That tattoo that started as a dolphin could morph into Shamu.
Lack of street cred: A tattoo says you’re committed to your bad-assery. A piercing just says, “I’m edgy and slightly rebellious.” We know you take your lip ring out when you visit your grandparents and put it back in when you go shopping at Hot Topic.
Vox Pick
Just remember that you’re forever stuck with your ’90s barbed-wire tat, while your peers took their eyebrow rings out seven years ago.
