The musical Cabaret begins July 2 as part of the celebration of the MU Summer Repertory Theatre’s 40th season. Sanders Family Christmas follows on July 10.
“The costumes and attire are a lot of fun for this show,” says Kara Funcik, the stage manager for Cabaret. The story, set in 1930s Berlin, centers on American singer Sally Bowles, who performs nightly at the local Kit-Kat Club. Sally finds herself in a sticky love situation, all while dressed in risqué flapper dresses.

Sanders Family Christmas takes the audience down a more wholesome path.
“The show is more a concert with words,” says Matt Heapes, the show’s stage manager. “It has a very O Brother, Where Art Thou? feel musically.” Instead of chasing after riches, this family is content with the simple things in life.
