Lucky Strike Out During a storm, 16-year-old BreAnna Helsel attempted to shut her window in order to keep the rain out only to have lightning strike her. Helsel isn’t old enough to play the lottery, but her mom decided they should buy a ticket celebrating her release from the hospital in Blanchard, Mich. The lightning might have caused muscle damage, but it also netted her $20. Maybe this can pay for a sliver of the hospital bill!
The Great Escape A 22-year-old jailbird was refused bail in Sydney, Australia, which led to her attempt at an unlikely escape. The promise of freedom ended all too soon when she got stuck in an air conditioning duct. After an hour she was rescued from the vent by her friends, the police. She now faces additional charges for attempting escape. Guess she was looking for her big break on Dumbest Criminals.
Fractured Feuds Efforts to save a domestic violence victim left New Zealander Christopher Thom with a 6-centimeter hole in his skull on Monday. During a late-night party, Thom stepped in to help a woman from being assaulted by her former boyfriend. The boyfriend pulled out a hammer from his pocket and struck Thom. Thom’s still waiting on surgery advice but is likely to steer clear of the good samaritan role in the future.
